Snowy Wedding | Destination Photography | Northern Arizona

October 17, 2015

I was a tiny bit worried when I saw the weather forecast for Mariah's wedding day. I have always dreamed of a snowy wedding-- so the snow news was good news to me! ...but the temp.... I was a tiny bit nervous!

It was overcast and cold when we started our day at Mariah's family home in Flagstaff... but we received a warm welcome and were ushered upstairs. We found Mariah looking beautiful, she was calm and confident.

Her bridesmaids had an idea for a shot they liked on Pinterest - so of course we obliged !

By the time we got to San Francisco De Asis Catholic Church,  the heavens let loose with flurries of snow.

So we cozied up in the sanctuary where the excitement was building.

Meet Ruben, Mariah's handsome groom:

The girls were understandably reluctant to go outside for bridal portraits - so I promised them they could step out-then right back in!

I was also trying out a new lens, the 85mm f/1.2, so it was a challenge for sure! The goal is to get that creamy blurry background while keeping my subject super sharp... and that can be a tricky task until you've mastered the nuances of this lens.

I loved how they turned out so much that I decided to buy this lens while editing this wedding.

We left the beautiful church in a hurry, the snow was really coming down by then!

Next stop the High Country Conference Center, and what a great reception venue it is! HCCC has giant windows, so we had a beautiful view of the gorgeous snowy weather! We loved this venue, not just for the views, but the staff was friendly and helpful too!

Mariah and her bridesmaids are the best kind of bridal party... her Maid of Honor had a few fun ideas, and everyone was more than willing to give them a try, and when I asked them for a few more [quick] outdoor shots, they were all about it!

I took a few images of the trees so I could play around with some double-exposure edits, here is my first attempt. I decided I need more practice, but I like the effect, and will keep trying to improve on this technique!

When you are in Flagstaff be sure to visit La Fonda, owned by the groom's family, coincidentally my favorite place to eat whenever I am up north (even before I met Ruben and Mariah!!)  They might have thought I was slightly TOO excited when we skyped our first meeting... I cannot help it, I LOVE THEIR FOOD!! :)

Fall sessions still available and also booking 2019 fall wedding dates!
